Few! It's been a busy two weeks. It was my husbands birthday and Father's Day and I've been trying to get all of my work for this month done in two weeks. Why you ask? Well I am leaving on vacation on Friday and I won't be back for a week and two days. It is going to be wonderful just my husband, Pickles and I relaxing next to the 6th most beautiful lake in the world (according to National Geographic and they would know), Higgins Lake. Of course my sketchbook will be coming along so you can all look forward to some new art when I get back. Don't work too hard!

A little close up for you.
I just got home from the artist reception for the Grand Rapids Festival of Arts. It was nice and incredibly busy. I always love looking at other people's work. It inspires me to do more of my own and challenges me to do even better work.

When I went to pick up my name tag I noticed there was a little gold star on the corner. I asked the lady working the name tag table what made me so special. She told me I had won an award and handed me the award list. Sure enough I got a purchase award! Sure, it's not as prestigious as a juror award but I'll take it. It's always a great boost to my confidence to learn that someone likes my work enough to pay money for it. No matter how many paintings I sell I think I'll always be just a little surprised when someone wants one.

Matilda had never thought of herself as wide, just as pleasantly plump.

I found out on Friday that one of my paintings was accepted in the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts Competition. It will be on display at the old art museum during Festival June 6-8. Come on down, check it out and vote for it as peoples choice!

This painting is a bit more surrealistic than my normal work. A bit darker too. Some seeds don't make it.

Nothing could deter Mavis from wearing her bikini, not fat roll or wrinkles.

I find inspiration everywhere and whenever possible I keep it is a file on my computer to be viewed when my brain starts getting lazy. I have a small obsession with ridiculous hats and wish I had the charisma to pull off something like this. If everyone else wore ridiculous hats I could wear my hats in my awkward way and not garner stares everywhere I went. What a wonderful, whimsical world that would be.

My most recently completed painting. I've been in a rather red mood lately. I think it's the springy weather.
